A regular in the SCCA's Classic American Muscle Contemporary class, Dennis Healy drove home with the victory at the Crows Landing event held in California in late April. After qualifying first out of 14 cars, he went on to win the class by a 2.4-second margin to put his Steeda-equipped 2015 Mustang into a position to make a run at the season championship.
"...For the first time this season, the morning runs were uneventful (nothing broke!), and we could concentrate on wheeling the car for once," Dennis explained. "And wheel it we did! What an absolute blast of a course -- this is why the trip to Crows Landing is always a treat!"
As a result of his strong class performance, Dennis also gained entry into the CAM Challenge, which pits four drivers from each of the CAM categories (-C, -T and -S) against each other. Dennis was feeling good until a rear strut failed during competition.
"... I was sitting in third place, just a few tenths out of first. But something didn't feel quite right heading out in the round of six, and I found myself chasing the tail though a very high-speed bus stop," he said. "In fact, I'm still not sure how I drifted it perfectly into the slalom that followed. Ultimately slowed down by 7/10ths, placing me fourth and on the outside looking in for the final round of three."
With the Crows Landing class success in his rear-view mirror, Dennis is making repairs and improving his setup for a run at the 2019 CAM-C championship.
