Description

Steeda's ever so popular S550 Clutch spring assist is now available with a Heavy Duty Spring Perch assembly. Therefore eliminating the chances of you breaking the factory one upon installation or removal.

Your 2015+ Mustang GT comes with a 185 lb/in clutch assist spring installed from the factory. This high-rate spring is what causes such a vague and disconnected clutch pedal feel. The clutch pedal travels in a circular arc, with the spring assist in the middle of that clutch pedal travel. The middle of that motion compresses the spring initially and then allows it to extend after the first 30 degrees of travel. The combination of a high-rate assist spring and motion of the pedal during engagement causes a non-linear and sometimes confusing pedal feel. Having a non-linear pedal feel makes it hard to modulate the clutch on your Mustang GT, EcoBoost or V6.

Many new Mustang owners have found that taking out the stock OE spring will give you somewhat similar results, but realistically the clutch becomes far too heavy especially if your Mustang is daily driven. Most owners fail to realize the prolonged effects of simply taking out your factory OE spring and not replacing it with another spring. By negating your factory clutch assist spring you will notice chatter/NVH from your clutch pedal. Your clutch pedal will never fully return to stock position without any assist spring, and over time your slave cylinder may begin leaking due to constant pressure on its seals from the clutch pedal not returning to the stock position. Avoid these problems in the future by installing our Steeda S550 Mustang Clutch Assist Spring 35 lb/in into your GT, EcoBoost or V6.

Our Steeda S550 Mustang Clutch Assist Spring 35 lb/in completely replaces the factory 185 lb/in assist spring. Our engineers have honed in on just the right amount of spring rate to get you the perfect clutch pedal feel you look for in a Mustang. This assist spring is manufactured from piano wire that naturally has high tensile strength and high elastic qualities. Our piano wire spring ensures a consistent spring rate and minimal sag even after repeated use. With the addition of our clutch assist spring, you will notice a much more linear feeling clutch - the reason being is that we take out much of the influence involved in your clutch pedal motion caused by the assist spring, allowing you to feel exactly what is happening with your clutch engagement.

You asked for it and Steeda delivered... After multiple requests for a heavy duty aftermarket solution for broken factory spring perches Steeda went to work and designed a piece much stronger. So much so we guarantee it for life! Fits perfectly with the OEM spring or the Steeda clutch spring. Fits all models and will help convert your 2015-2018 GT350 over to the Steeda clutch spring which gives you a much better feel of your clutch.

Note: Will not fit the 2019-2020 GT350. Clutch spring may be incompatible with Ford Performance M-9452-M8 no-lift shift strategy.

Hi everybody Brian from Steeda.com, here today spotlighting our Clutch Spring assist for the S550 Mustang. Most modern Fords equipped with a manual transmission including your Mustang have a clutch spring assist. The idea behind this is, for the spring to actually aid in pushing the clutch pedal down but with the use of a hydraulic clutch system this kind of seems repetitive. Now the manufacturers had good intentions in that they can use a slightly heavier pressure plate for the increased torque and horsepower these cars have today but the reality is a very vague feeling as you're trying to let the clutch out. You don't feel the engagement point. We have a solution! Let's start with the spring itself. We've developed this to be a much lighter rate, 35 pounds to be exact and want it to be the specific length needed for the rate that we've gone with. This means that when the clutch pedals all the way out, the spring can sit flat, yet it's plenty long when you push the pedal all the way to the floor. Now the spring is offered by itself. We do recommend that you be very careful if your car has some miles on it or it's a few years old even if it's brand new when you're disassembling the factory spring perch but rest assured we do have a spring perch for you if you damage the factory piece. The spring perch itself is also an upgrade to the factory unit. We've constructed a durable Delrin and it can be used with the factory system spring or even better our assistant spring. We do recommend greasing the male end of this, for smooth operation. Now the way to really do it though, is just to buy the kit. This way you can keep the factory assembly altogether, install our kit and enjoy it and when I say enjoy this let's face it, every time you're going through the gears, every time you're shifting, you’re pressing in the clutch and you're letting the clutch out and this is one of those little things that you can do to your car that makes a huge difference in how you enjoy driving it. Won’t be disappointed
The Steeda Clutch Spring Assist Kit surely does make a difference. It was simple and easy to install. I’d recommend this be the first mod you install with the 6 speed manual.

Big difference.
I had it on both my Bullitt and PP1 cars and it MADE a DIFFERENCE. Easiest install that doesn’t break the bank that you can do at home and get a confident feel where the clutch engages.

Don’t hesitate - do this mod now
I had been reading all the reviews and was hesitant to do this but I have to say this is the best mod you can do for your 2019 GT. I didn’t know what to expect after the perch and spring were installed but I could immediately tell the difference the minute I pushed in the clutch to start my car. The stock assembly felt like it wasn’t able to find the bite point. This one sure does. I felt it slipping before - now I don’t. I’ve owned Mustangs since my first GT in 1989. The clutch feels solid again. Don’t hesitate to get this “kit.” It’s WELL WORTH the money. Thank you, Steeda for making my clutch feel like it should!

MUST HAVE
I'm truely blown away that this didn't come with the mustang from the factory. I'm a fairly experienced manual driver and when I got this car it always felt a bit sloppy and hard to gauge where the clutch bites. Since installing the new steeda spring it's incredibly smoother and easier to drive. I chose not to get the perch but I would recommend getting the combo kit because a small piece of my oem perch snapped. Don't hesitate, buy it already! No questions asked

Dude
Easy install for someone who couldn't be more inept when it comes to auto work. Took 5 min with pliers only. Definitely get the kit with the perch, the OEM broke as soon as it came off. Grab point is much easier to find, great bang for your $ all around.

2020 Bullitt
Installed the package spring/perch kit yesterday. Feeling a pretty big difference in smoothness/ease of clutch pedal and not jerky at all. Came off easy with vise grip, little more challenging to place the new one but its all good.

Worth the money
Popped the old one off and replaced it with this one in about a minute, easiest mod so far. Results didn’t blow my mind or anything, but made finding clutch engagement easier and I’m happy with the money spent and quality piece.

RHD Fitment Note
Better feel as mentioned by others but also less fatigue in stop start traffic. I'm not the youngest or most mechanically inclined and don't have a huge tool kit. Removal was OK but I had to get a more 'flexible' assistance to do the install, as the clutch access isn't as straight forward on the RHD models for an old guy. Tracking on the shipment to Australia was poor.

Clutch Helper Spring
Wow! Night and day difference. This is how the car should be from factory. The clutch engagement point is more pronounced and more crisp. Highly suggest!

Easy mod/upgrade
Not that I had a problem with the factory clutch spring, but decided this was an easy mod/upgrade to try. That said, I made the change and agree with other reviewers. The change in pedal pressure and feel is noticeable, and it definitely improves smoothness and engagement. Two install notes: 1. Expect some spring backlash when removing the stock assembly. You can't quite release all the spring tension or compress the stock spring fully, so take precautions. 2. Expect the stock perch to break, snap, or crumble. Order the Steeda spring and perch kit - you'll be happy you did.

Clutch spring and perch kit.
Simple installation resulting in superior clutch "feel". Factory spring left driver "hunting" for engagement point. Excellent first mod for my 2020 Bullitt!

I ordered the spring and installed myself. Helpful to have the right pliers to compress the factory spring. Make sure to use white lithium grease on the new spring mount and perch kit. I installed by hand, all in less than 5 minutes. Now I can absolutely feel the clutch engagement making more crisp and precise shifts possible. Best mod. for the least amount of money in my opinion.

Best Mod - pls don’t think twice
Easy to install! Long nose locking pliers would do the trick. Steeda perch upgrade kit is so much better than stock and you would be very happy with what this kit had done to your shifting!

Lord and Master
Makes the clutch feel normal by replacing the overassisted stock spring. Mod a pair of cheap needle nose vise pliers like the Humble Pie review showed. I also used one of my bar clamps in spreader mode to hold the clutch pedal down. With those two items I could change this out in five minutes.

The Kit is the trick!!
Please don't cheap out and try to put the Steeda Spring on the OEM Ford guide - the Steeda Delrin guide is 100% better than the plastic one from the factory, which broke off in my hand... And, IMO, my clutch control is a whole lot better with the Steeda kit - I can really feel the clutch engage now. I definitely don't regret buying the kit!
