  • Steeda quality, backed by a lifetime warranty

Your 2015-2017 Mustang comes with a 185 lb/in clutch assist spring installed from the factory. This high-rate spring is what causes such a vague and disconnected clutch pedal feel. The clutch pedal travels in a circular arc, with the spring assist in the middle of that clutch pedal travel. The middle of that motion compresses the spring initially and then allows it to extend after the first 30 degrees of travel. The combination of a high-rate assist spring and motion of the pedal during engagement causes a non-linear and sometimes confusing pedal feel. Having a non-linear pedal feel makes it hard to modulate the clutch on your Mustang GT, EcoBoost or V6.

Many new Mustang owners have found that taking out the stock OE spring will give you somewhat similar results, but realistically the clutch becomes far too heavy especially if your Mustang is daily driven. Most owners fail to realize the prolonged effects of simply taking out your factory OE spring and not replacing it with another spring. By negating your factory clutch assist spring you will notice chatter/NVH from your clutch pedal. Your clutch pedal will never fully return to stock position without any assist spring, and over time your slave cylinder may begin leaking due to constant pressure on its seals from the clutch pedal not returning to the stock position. Avoid these problems in the future by installing our Steeda S550 Mustang Clutch Assist Spring 35 lb/in into your GT, EcoBoost or V6.

Our Steeda S550 Mustang Clutch Assist Spring 35 lb/in completely replaces the factory 185 lb/in assist spring. Our engineers have honed in on just the right amount of spring rate to get you the perfect clutch pedal feel you look for in a Mustang. This assist spring is manufactured from piano wire that naturally has high tensile strength and high elastic qualities. Our piano wire spring ensures a consistent spring rate and minimal sag even after repeated use. With the addition of our clutch assist spring, you will notice a much more linear feeling clutch - the reason being is that we take out much of the influence involved in your clutch pedal motion caused by the assist spring, allowing you to feel exactly what is happening with your clutch engagement.

WOW! This is how the car should have come from the factory
Received my spring today and installed it before I went out for lunch. Literally took me about 10 seconds to install using one hand to depress the clutch and the other to install the spring. The spring is light enough that you can compress it enough with one hand after setting the bottom piece on it's perch so you then swing the top in place. Let me preface this by saying I have been driving my GT without any spring and really liked the feel. Clutch engagement was much easier to find without that HD stock spring pushing back at you! I didn't ever think the pedal was too heavy without the spring; simply thought I would give this spring a try to see how it feels. WOW! This is how the car should have come from factory - not without a spring at all. This spring makes a noticeable difference in the weight of the pedal, but it doesn't make the engagement point so ambiguous like the stock HD spring. There is no push back like you experience with the stock spring at the engagement point, which for me, was what made it difficult to make smooth shifts. In fact, I would say this spring makes it even easier to shift smoothly as it take away any unnecessary weight from the pedal while finding the engagement point. Nice job Steeda!! Appreciate that they saw an issue being widely discussed and found their own solution to offer.

i installed earlier and the feel is almost the same as removing the clutch spring. with the spring remove the pedal would not go up 100% so this seems to correct that. no idea if il notice anything else but clutch pedal feels the same as no spring and engagement.

Can't believe how much better the clutch feel is with the 35lb spring. The install is simple and takes only a minute or two.

Install it last night and I'm happy
Installed it last night and I'm happy. The stock spring made it difficult to feel the clutch engagement point. No spring made the pedal feel heavy for daily driving and annoying in traffic. The Steeda spring gives a balanced feel that provides more clutch engagement accuracy.

It feels nearly the exact same as not having the spring at all
Just installed Steeda's 35lb clutch assist spring. Since I already had the spring out, popping the new one in took less than a minute; in fact, if you know how the assembly is supposed to sit; you don't even need to see it. I simply felt my way around and once everything clicked into place, took my phone light to double check and was good to go. My first impressions? It feels nearly the exact same as not having the spring at all. If there is a difference, it's not something that's readily noticeable unless I am 100% concentrating on it. It SEEMS a little more "springy" than before, but honestly I think it's just my imagination. Basically, the difference, if there's any at all, is minimal. Since I loved the feeling with no spring, I guess this is a good thing, right?

Feel is much better than stock
Installed mine today, feel is much better than stock! If you're having a hard time compressing the stock spring, just get more leverage with bigger vice grips or pliers. Steeda directions are good, nothing broke! Easy! Thanks Steeda!

Thanks Steeda!
Just installed my Steeda clutch spring over the weekend and the clutch is much better now. I too found when releasing that I was hanging up the clutch or I could not find the correct pressure point, but it was the spring doing it all along. I have driven many manual transmission cars since I was 15 and it was hard to get used to. The 2014 Focus ST I had before this one felt very similar. Very vague pedal feel, but no more. Thanks Steeda! :)

Would buy it again
Took about 10 minutes to install total. Would have been faster had i done it before. Real straight forward process, but I think our cars (GT350) have a second helper spring that the normal S550 cars don't have. I couldn't find a picture of it online, but you will see once you get in there. The results of the upgrade are great. I have much better feel for where the clutch engages, and still have the assist with a light clutch pedal. Also no rattle or play in the pedal. I recommend it, would buy it again, and its $10 well spent.

This is how the car should feel from the beginning
Installed the spring today. This is how the car should feel from the beginning. The clutch gets harder to press, but now you get a really good feeling of the clutch engagement. I guess if you have to stand a lot on red lights you need a strong left leg now or just switch out of a gear. But for driving it feels really great. Installation in really easy. Press the pedal with your left hand, hold the middle part of the spring together with a Vice grip (I used a normal one without a needle nose). Press the spring together so you can rotate it in the direction of the driver seat - Done.

Hands down one of the best mods you can do
Hands down one of the best mods you can do. I went with the Steeda spring and couldn't be happier. I am sure taking it out completely is almost the same, but I wanted to be sure it had some tension on it. For $10 it was well worth that piece of mind. I have been driving manual transmission cars for about 25 years and have had plenty of them. It was hard to get used to the pressure points on the new Mustang.....the same went for my 2014 Focus ST. They make them too easy to work the clutch now, but you lose the feeling in the clutch to drive it properly. Now if you have a very weak left leg, then it goes without saying....leave your factory spring in.

Vast improvement over the stock 170-185lb spring
I've tried both, can't really tell the difference between the 35lb and 55lb springs but they are both a vast improvement over the stock 170-185lb spring, the clutch has a far more natural weighting with a lot more feel. The great news is the pedal returns right back to the top and the pedal weight is not as heavy with no spring.

After installing the Steeda clutch spring I can say it seems to be the best of both worlds now
After installing the Steeda clutch spring I can say it seems to be the best of both worlds now. I still can feel the linearity I liked with no spring and can now modulate the pressure on the pedal a bit better as it is not so stiff. One of the better things I have done to my car and it was only $10.

WOW!
I installed the clutch assist spring the other day, and just got the chance to drive the car this morning. WOW! The feel is completely different, and the formerly vague and extremely light clutch now feels very connected with appropriate weighting. I could see the weight getting old in traffic, but it's roughly the same as the clutch in my old 2006 GT, so I'm used to it. It would be nice to see Steeda offer a couple different weights, so drivers could try them and decide what's their best option, but this is WAY better than stock! This should be any S550 driver's first mod!

I can't speak enough about how much it improved the feel
Spring arrived awhile ago but I wasn't able to put it in until today... Incredible! I was previously running no spring but I didn't have any play or issues. I bought the spring just to try it and I can't speak enough about how much it improved the feel. For me, it's the perfect balance between no spring and a spring. Makes the clutch easier and smoother than no spring but also has all the benefits that come with no spring as well.
