The Cobra IRS Differential cover is cast in aluminum, a material prized for its unique property of strength without the weight of steel or cast iron. Yet aluminum is not as flexible as steel, so when you push your Cobra to the limit in the corners, you may be applying enough force to twist the cover beyond it's ability to flex. Repeatedly doing this causes the metal , with the result show below, left.

Without resorting to a replacement cover made entirely of steel or iron, the engineers at Steeda designed the steel brace shown in the photo below, right. By mounting with 6 bolts (supplied) where other designs use 5, the Steeda Autosports Cobra IRS Differential Cover Brace provides 20% more points of attachment, yeilding greater strength and safety. Installation is straightforward using the supplied hardware, and the we have even thoughtfully included a hole to permit easy access to the differential fill plug without the need to remove the brace.

Customer Reviews

Nice product, had to go Steeda for a real Steeda GT w/IRS swap
Its a brace for the IRS... there are a lot of them out there. Got this one specifically because I have GT #0048 from the year 2000 and Steeda parts have always been good. Good looking, nice welds, the powdercoat on it is very nice and comes with all the hardware you need and good 10.9 class mount bolts. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS, put the 2 mount bolts and spacer in place first or you will have a heck of a time later on getting them in. I'm going to chalk this up to variances in the Ford manufacturing process but my brace I had to fiddle with getting some bolts started and then backing out and trying others for them all to go in hand tight with no crossthreading but they all went and brace is on there are properly torqued. Plenty of clearance to get the fill plug out too. As always, ensure you use factory torque value of 25ft lbs with a good torque wrench and go in the correct factory torque pattern. These cases are aluminum and good luck if you blow out a thread or snap a bolt because you think your calibrated elbow is going to do the job.
