Track days, autocross events, and hard cornering sessions demand more from an oil pan than the factory unit can deliver. Moroso's road race oil pan for the Ford 289/302 uses a kicked-out rear sump design, aggressive internal baffling, and a 7-quart capacity to keep oil where the engine needs it through sustained lateral loads. Steel construction finished in Moroso's own black powder coat gives the pan durability without the weight penalty of a cast unit.
Four trap doors and dual baffles manage oil under load. The non-billet-seal version uses four trap doors, two fixed baffles, and a removable anti-slosh baffle to control oil movement during hard cornering and braking. The billet end seal version upgrades to a diamond-shaped four trap door assembly with a removable anti-slosh baffle, providing improved oil control across all driving conditions. Both configurations maintain consistent oil pressure where the pump pickup needs it most.
7-1/2-inch depth and 7-quart capacity add critical oil volume. The additional depth and volume compared to the factory pan reduce oil temperature and extend the time before starvation can occur during extended track use. A 1/4" N.P.T. dipstick provision and a 1/2" N.P.T. oil temperature bung are built into the pan, so adding a temperature sender requires no fabrication.
Two end seal configurations fit different block specs. The standard option clears a 302 with 4-bolt centers only and will not clear a 302 with 4-bolt front and rear main caps. The billet end seal option features fully fabricated steel construction with billet end seals for an improved sealing surface, and clears all 4-bolt main cap configurations, including front and rear. Both versions clear a 3.40" stroke with most steel rods.
