The oil pump is one of the most critical components in a high-performance engine, and it is also one of the most overlooked. From the factory, oil pump gears are made using a sintering process, where powdered steel is compressed and heated into shape. It is a cost-efficient manufacturing technique that works well enough for a stock engine at stock power levels. But sintered steel tops out at around 6,000 PSI of yield strength. When you add boost, raise the rev limit, increase power output, or push an engine through sustained high-RPM use on a track, that margin disappears quickly. Boundary Racing Pumps was founded specifically to solve this problem.
Established in 2003 and based in Texas, Boundary is a company with a singular focus: lubrication systems for the automotive racing industry. Every pump they produce is hand-built using billet steel with a yield strength approaching 110,000 PSI, roughly 18 times stronger than the sintered steel found in OEM pumps. Every billet steel gear is fully traceable back to its original material specification sheet, worked out in collaboration with metallurgists to find the optimal combination of steel grade and heat treatment for oil pump applications.
That heat treatment process includes Boundary's own proprietary MartenWear technology, developed and applied entirely in-house. MartenWear is a second-stage surface hardening treatment applied to the exterior of billet components after the initial heat treat. It brings surface hardness to a Rockwell C rating of 55 to 60 and a Vickers hardness of 620 to 720, making the gear surfaces extremely resistant to wear and debris ingestion. Boundary's MartenWear-treated components have been tested and proven wear-free at engine speeds up to and beyond 13,000 RPM, with no defined upper RPM limit identified in testing.
All of this is manufactured in-house at Boundary's own facility using high-end American-made CNC milling and turning equipment. That level of internal control means consistent tolerances, consistent quality, and a product that performs exactly the same way from one unit to the next. Their pumps have proven themselves in engines producing up to 550 horsepower per liter, making them a trusted choice not just for street performance builds but for serious racing applications.
For Ford owners, Boundary offers pump solutions covering a wide range of engines, including the 5.0 Coyote, 5.2 Voodoo, 5.2L Predator, 4.6 and 5.4 Modular motors, 6.2L Modular, 7.3L Godzilla, EcoBoost, and more. If your Ford is making more power than it left the factory with, or if you spend any time at elevated RPM on a track or strip, a Boundary oil pump is one of the smartest investments you can make in the longevity of your engine.
