Hi everybody Brian from Steeda, sharing a short story with you. Specifically to those of you with an S550 Mustang equipped with the MT82 Manual Transmission, that's right the Steeda Street Short Shifter. Todays story is going to build on things we've established in chapters during other videos. Specifically little things that make a huge improvement to your Mustang. So here we are with the Steeda Street Short Throw Shifter. This is important because it is one of those things again maybe not all that little if you will but it's something that is hidden underneath the shift knob, the shift boot and the center console. You don't really see it but when you drive your car after installing this, it is a huge improvement. We'll get into the specifics here in just a moment but as an enthusiast we know you enjoy shifting your car. This is why you purchased a manual transmission after all. An MT82 Transmission is really slick! It has a nice feel to it but the stock shifter well kind of reduces that feel a little bit and the throws are well a little bit to long. So if this can be improved upon, well of course here we are doing it! This Short Throw Shifter will reduce the by 30%. So A 30% shorter throw from first to second, second to third, third to second you get the idea here. Any gear that your rowing through, it shorten that by 30%, or reduces that by 30%, that's huge! Another thing that it does it actually lowers the shift knob height by 1 inch. This is nice because alot of our taller drivers, well even my self an trust me I'm not very tall. The reality is that it shorten the shifter height by about 1 inch and that means the shift knob is in a much friendlier position. It's not as awkward, yet its still relationship to the steering wheel is still very good and easy to reach, quickly from the steering wheel to the shift knob but it gets rid of that abnormally tall shift position if you will. So you have the reduced throw and of course now a 1 inch lower shift knob. Speaking of shift knob, the shifters designed to retain the factory shift knob and factory reverse lockout collar. So this means everything will shift over. Now these other pieces are on the table for a very specific reason. The shift knobs, well because again it comes down to feel. Those little things you can do to the car to make it better. The other thing that plays into it is the Reverse Lockout Collar. We're showing our billet piece here, we also offer a black Delrin version. As your in there a lot of these peace's cross over. There is no better time to replace that lockout collar then right now. Your reverse connectivity and activity if you will. The reverse lockout it self, works the same as stock. So you simply pull up to go in reverse. In addition this means that your reverse camera will remain fully functional with the Steeda Short Throw Shifter. It's really important for those of you that are daily driving the car and haven't quite fully built yours into a race car yet. Maybe you never plan to. Again this shifter is so friendly as far as driving and the feel is so good it's something that anyone that has an S550 Mustang with a MT82, well again it's something you should have. We wanted to design a Short Shifter that was strong as well as a direct replacement for the factory piece. So we talked about it in the previous chapter if you will, as far as reverse lockout all those good things. As far as strength is concerned we construct this out of 4140 heat treated steal then nickel plate it. That's as far as the shift lever. The reverse lockout mechanism, that is actually made of Delrin which going to be substantially stronger. Again Delrin is about a 99 durometer, extremely strong and durable. Also one of the things that was very important to us as far as replacing the stock shifter, in a street shifter that it be great on the street in the sense of no addition noise vibration or harshness (NVH). Now you can take this a step further kinda make it a hybrid setup between street and strip or street and race if you will and purchase this billet rear mount with the polyurethane bushing. What this does it supports that tail shaft on the transmission shifter if you will. It's a remote shifter that comes up and it's connection to the body. This means under hard shifts it's going to be much more crisp and again continue to benefit you as far as the driver feedback and ultimate responsiveness and we already know this from chapters we are going to borrow from other videos. We already know that anytime you can keep energy going through the drivetrain as opposed as to being absorbed through the chassis, well ultimately the car is going to be more responsive and much more entertaining to drive. A moment ago we spoke about this being a direct replacement for the factory shifter and it is and although it looks like there's not very many moving parts there are some parts you will carry over from the factory piece. It's really important to follow the instructions closely or reference our installation video. We do recommend professional installation on this simply because it's way easier if the car is up on a lift and you can get to it from underneath because you will have to the transmission tunnel. And this of course brings us back to this guy over here, of reason we recommend doing it at the same time, your already in there. Your already under the car, getting up into the center tunnel. So that's the reality of it. You can do it but if you decide to do this defiantly read through the instructions a few times before digging into it because there are some details that will help you tremendously. Situating the O Rings, making sure that your using the provide grease where it needs to be in particular with these O Rings so that your reverse lockout works correctly. Again if your working ahead get yourself the Reverse Lockout Collar. You can reuse the factory shift knob if you want with our Reverse Lockout Collar or again you can go to the Steeda Shift Knob. It all depends on what you want to do and again and how deep you want to get into it but the reality is installation is fairly complex for such a simple looking part, defiantly reference the video. Defiantly reference the instruction before digging into it. Is this shifter for you? Well if you own a S550 Mustang with a MT82 Manual Transmission and this includes EcoBoost, V-6, GT and Bullitt the answer is Yes! The enjoyment level that you have in your car everyday well you're going to look for excuses to drive it, We know that you probable already do this. Once you put this in your going to look for even more reasons to take your car out and really enjoy it. Especially though some twistiness, to the drag strip, local road course or autocross or just daily driving it like we've seen so much as far as Rods concern with his Q500. It just makes your driving experience so much more enjoyable. We proudly manufacture this in the USA at our Valdosta Georgia facility and back it with our lifetime warranty. Tri-Ax Short Throw Shifter
Added this shifter to a 2019 Bullitt along with the Steeda shifter bushing. Incredible difference! The shift knob is in a lower and better position. Shifts slot into position with a more positive feel. The difference in throw is given as a 30% reduction, but it feels even greater than that. You will immediately notice and appreciate the change.

Great Purchase
I bought this shifter along with the trans mount bushing and shifter base bushing bracket. These 3 parts got rid of all the play and slop of the factory shifter. Install is pretty easy if you have extensions and swivels. No more missed shifts and gear lockouts. No NVH either!

Great
My car is street car that is rarely driven and I didn't see the point in buying the race shifter. Plus I didn't want to drop the exhaust, driveshaft and trans. to put it in. If your like me this is the best option imo. 30% throw reduction without adding any NVH and is not difficult to install.

Very Happy I changed my Shifter
This Short throw shifter is 100% a must for me to have done. 30% less throw is fantastic in it self. But when I add the rear bracket from Steeda also a Must, I now have a great feel in my shifts. 3 gear is easier to hit then ever. To top everything off I add the Reverse Lock-Out Collar. This is a great set up for just doing street spirited driving. And it is an INCH shorter, great for my wrist. Love my steeda products I have used.

Great product
Installed this part because I wanted to get rid of the slop in my shifter without having to replace the entire thing. Reduced the throw and got rid of the wobble from the stock shifter.

This is a must add
Just installed this on my 2015 Ecoboost mustang. It works great. Shifts are now much more precise and confident. Topped it off with an eight ball rally stripe shift knob. I added the billet rear support with poly bushing. This is a must add since the stock one is a massively under engineered piece of junk. The install was not without it's share of expletives but when done the results are worth all the effort. Thank's Steeda for your quality and innovation.

This kit is awesome!!
The revised version has a 30% throw reduction and drops the shift knob approx. an inch. I had this installed on Saturday night and this modification became an immediate favorite. If you're like me and don't want to or need to spend the extra money on the race version short shifter kit, do yourself a favor and buy this one. The tri ax street version has become my second favorite mod right behind my tunes. The shifts are quick, precise, tight, there's no slop, very very little NVH, and the shifts just feel awesome. My knob drop is absolutely perfect as now my forearm rests on the center console area and the shifts are just a flick of the wrist basically. I also installed the clutch spring at the same time and so with the spring and the short shifter, I am loving this manual transmission. There's no need for automatic for blazing shifts. I highly recommend contacting [email protected] and buying this if you want blazing smooth shifts without spending the money on the race version. This kit is awesome!!

It's a nicely made piece, and the price is right.
It's a nicely made piece, and the price is right. This is probably the short shifter to use on a daily driver. I will say, that it is 100% possible to install this without dropping the exhaust and driveshaft, but you will be cussing. Dropping the exhaust and driveshaft opens everything up and eliminates having to use all sorts of extensions and swivels to get everything to work. Use the Ford Racing short shifter instructions for dropping these two bits.

What a difference
I recently purchased and had installed the Steeda short throw shifter in my '15 5.0. What a difference. The shifts feel tighter and gives the car a whole new feel. After reading some of the other reviews, I'm definitely thinking of now adding the trans bushing and shifter bushing. Thanks for such great products!!

Shifter fess so much tighter now
Looks the same for the most part but the stock shifter sticks up a little bit higher. Any way the install was straight forward until getting to the part where you need to go under the car. Follow instructions though and just have a little patience as getting to the part you need to access can be tricky. Just need a few extensions and universal joints. Any how once installed the shifter itself is definitely quality. The sloppiness of the stock shifter is drastically reduced and feels so much tighter now. I like it and enjoy the improvement.

The throws are shorter, and much more crisp
Installed the steeda trans bushing, shifter bushing, and short shifter this morning. For about $200, you can't beat it. I don't notice any additional V/H at all. I do notice that the throws are shorter, and much more crisp. There's a tiny bit of wiggle in it, but it's very firm if your slamming through the gears. I do hear the motor and transmission more in the cabin now due to the tranny bushing, but I don't care at all. Mustang noises are welcome. Lol.

The throws are noticeably shorter
Purchased and received this short throw lever last week, and Installed it over the weekend. Took about 2 hours to finish the install. The throws are noticeably shorter, and 2nd and 4th gear are less awkward to engage and disengage since its more centered when do to less travel. Def worth the labor, and isnt to difficult to execute. Just be careful w the shifter boot trim.
