2011 Ford Mustang Specs & Details

The 2011 model year brings brand new technology to the new styling of the Mustang in the best ways possible! After the body redesign in the 2010 model year, Ford moved forward with completely new engine technology to make the 2011 Mustang stand out from the crowd while also beating its competition on the street and the track. The new body style brings power, poise, and a lot of attitude in a completely new package that is sure to keep competition both American and with brands like Lexus, Mercedes, and more.

The obvious big change is the introduction of the all-new Coyote V8 motor. Replacing the 4.6-liter 3-valve motor, the 5.0-liter features a dual overhead camshaft design which gives the car a total overhaul for power, bringing the car to 412 horsepower - quite a jump up from the 3-valve’s 315 horsepower. With Ford’s twin independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT) the Mustang is capable of producing much more power while improving fuel economy by changing the camshaft timing inside the engine to maximize efficiency. The Coyote motor is certain to not only bring massive performance to the car but also be easy to upgrade to meet its full potential.

Additionally to the new motor, the 2011 Mustang receives a new gearbox. The old 5-speed manual gearbox has been replaced with an all-new 6-speed manual built by Getrag and 6-speed automatic with Ford’s own SelectShift feature which goes between fully automatic and full manual shifting. With the new 6-speed manual, the Mustang is capable of putting down all 390 lb-ft of torque and accelerating to 60 miles per hour in 4.3 seconds. The car is predictable when driven at the limit because of the solid rear axle being incredibly communicative under heavy use.

Surprisingly, the GT500 stays mostly the same as the 2010 model year with the 5.4-liter supercharged modular V8 putting down 540 horsepower, moving on with only technology improvements over the 2010 model. The block for the motor did change from iron to aluminum for weight savings as well as the optional SVT Performance Package which improved handling and acceleration. Additionally, the 2011 Shelby GT500 receives electrically-assisted steering which can have different wheel weights added to it through different settings on the dashboard.

With everything the new Mustang brings, the future of America’s sports car is looking bright. With the all new motors using the Ti-VCT technology, every Mustang now is on the quicker end and offers more performance than ever before. With the larger yet lighter motors, the Mustang is more athletic than it has been in years and is ready to punch well above its weight class again.
