Check out Mustang 360's review and install our billet aluminum rear shock mounts for the S550.
Once the aftermarket shocks started coming out for the S550 (2015+) Mustang people all across the country ran into issues breaking the factory rear shock mount. Whether it was drag racing or road racing with very stiff shocks, customers were having all sorts of issues. That's when the team at Steeda got together to come up with a solution.
Made from billet 6061 aluminum, these mounts are designed to replace the weak cast factory units. Unlike the factory mounts that have a rubber bushing that binds and will deteriorate over time on lowered cars or cars with aggressive shock settings, these units feature a Steeda spec stainless steel spherical Teflon lined bearing for optimum performance and control. Unlike other aftermarket mounts, these mounts are compatible with adjustable shocks that utilize a top-mounted adjuster. Steeda also designed this kit to provide 1/4" more clearance for wide rear tires on S550 Mustangs. A great way to keep the bearings protected from the elements is to add on the Steeda Rear Shock Mount Covers.
Steeda also went a step further by making the kit fit the shocks listed below (Please review for fitment): - All Stock Shocks, Viking Shocks, Ford Racing Shocks (10mm-1.5 diameter)
- Steeda Adjustable Pro-Action Shocks, Koni Adjustable Shocks (12mm-1.25 diameter)
- Steeda Non-Adjustable Pro-Action Shocks, Koni Non-Adjustable Shocks, KW V3 Adjustable Shocks (10mm-1.0 diameter)
If you are running stock shocks now but might upgrade to Pro-Actions in the future, no problem, there is no drilling required like the OEM mounts, these mounts are upgradable with a simple spacer and nut change ( 555-8153 ). The Steeda Billet Shock Mounts are a great upgrade to drag racers and road racers alike, or if you're running aggressive shocks on your car, these will greatly help with control with uncompromised durability.

Hi everybody Brian from Steeda.com sharing with you today a modification that every one of you should make your S550 Mustang. The Steeda Billet Rear Shock Mounts.
When Ford was developing and designing the Independent Rear Suspension setup for the S550 Mustang, they spent a lot of time looking at the wheel rate and motion ratio of the back suspension. If you look under your car you're going to see that the rear springs are set pretty far inward. What this means is that the wheel and the control arm have a lot of leverage against the spring. This gives you more flexibility in spring rates, it also means they need to run a little bit more spring rate to make sure that the wheel rate at the wheel and tire is correct. More on this in another segment, try to stay on track here, quite literally. So what Ford also had to do is they had to run a rear shock setup there's more outboard and the reason they do this is because when the control arm has that much leverage against the spring well you want to have more control of the control arm and the rear wheel and the suspension as it's doing what it's doing. In addition, they wanted to make sure this was a car that handled well, drove well on the street and of course performed well with the drag strip because there were a lot of naysayers that thought no way an IRS car is going to be able to be as fast as a solid stick. No way! and our Silver Bullet has proved this wrong a number of times.
Now that we've established how important the rear shocks are to the IRS setup let's move over to how these things are mounted in particular, the upper rear mount that bolts into the chassis. Ford utilizes a cast aluminum mount and that's fine. The cast aluminum is plenty strong but it's the internal bushing that they're using that's sometimes prone to failure and this is more likely to happen when you're going to the drag strip frequently, auto crossing or attending track days. Especially if the track is anything like Sebring and you've seen us hopping the curbs there as well as how rough it is. The reality is that there is a need for something stronger. Especially with the importance of the rear shock. This is why Steeda developed the Billet Rear Shock Mounts. Our Rear Shock Mounts are constructed of 6061 Billet Aluminum for strength and because of this additional strength, this gives us the opportunity to actually cut an angle into it and this angle allows for extra wide rear tires. It gives you the opportunity to run a higher offset rear wheel and run an extra wide tire for whatever you're throwing at your Mustang. We take it a step further and utilize a pre-loaded Teflon coated Spherical Bearing. Try saying that a couple times fast. This is very important because as the rear suspension travels the shock actually changes angles just a little bit and this bearing doesn't create any artificial bind or artificial spring rate. This means that whatever springs you on the back of the car whatever Stop the Hop components you have on the back of the car will do their job and the suspension geometry remains intact. It's also much stronger than the factory piece and this is important because again we know what you're going to throw at it. You've seen how hard we've launched our Silver Bullet in fact these Billet Rear Mounts are on some of the fastest supercharged and naturally aspirated cars in the country and it's not just for drag racing. We utilize these on our Red 2018 HPDE Car as well as our Yellow SCCA Road Race Car, because again strength is important.
Another important note we've engineered our Billet Rear Shock Mounts to the same dimensions as the factory mount. This is important because we've retained the same amount of travel for the rear shock, albeit for removing the same amount of travel. You can also utilize the factory bump stop and dust shield or even better if the car is lowered, you can go to our Pre-Cut Jounce Bump Stops.
The Steeda Rear Shock Mount is a direct replacement for the factory mount and installs in the exact same position. We highlight this because unlike some of our competitors this means that the rear shock will follow its natural trajectory, exactly as the Ford engineers designed it to. Furthermore, these are backed by the Steeda Lifetime Warranty and we proudly manufacture these in the USA at a Valdosta Georgia facility because, Speed Matters.
We offer these mounts in two different sizes 10 millimeter and 12 millimeter. So a size that will fit every type of prominent shock out there. This includes but is not limited to by any means Bilstein and Koni as well as Viking and of course our Steeda Pro-Action line of rear shocks and struts.
