2012 Ford Mustang Specs & Details

For the 2012 model year, Ford has made sure that the Mustang has some serious performance. While the look of the Mustang has not changed from the 2011 year much, the big changes come under the hood. Compared to its rivals, the Mustang’s 412 horsepower in the 5.0 GT model is downright impressive still, especially when considering the price point to the base model GT at $31,000 which is cheaper than its rivals as well. With such sharp looks and the power to match, the 2012 Mustang is a serious player not only in the muscle car world but the entire performance car world.

2012 Mustang

With the same performance figures as the 2011, the Mustang is no slouch, and neither is the all-new Boss 302 and 302 Laguna Seca models. Slotting in below the GT500, the Boss 302 and Boss 302 Laguna Seca are the new big dogs in the Mustang lineup. With the highest revving motor ever built by Ford for road use at the time, the upgraded Coyote dubbed "Roadrunner" features forged internals and a custom intake manifold designed specifically for the Boss 302. With a redline of 7,500 rpm, the Roadrunner was also improved to a major 444 horsepower, bringing it to only 100 horsepower away from the 5.4-liter supercharged Shelby GT500.

The main upgrades to the Mustang for 2012 come on the inside. The interior has been upgraded to be appointed similarly to more expensive cars, fitted with SYNC and Bluetooth options as well as a backup camera and universal door openers. While most models get improved interiors and technology, the race-ready 302 and Laguna Seca lose their rear seats and most of the new technology to ensure the fullest racing and driving experience out of the car. With the Boss 302 and even higher Laguna Seca models, the bare essentials are all that are offered to allow drivers the purest experience while racing.

The Mustang takes 2012 as a year to simply flaunt itself around road courses, race tracks, back roads, and around town while showing off the upgrades that make it stand out from the competition. It has been sharpened, controlled, and perfected as far as the Mustang has ever been while keeping it simple to make into the perfect setup for the driver. With Ford teasing a possible refresh of the design for the 2013 model year, the 2012 Mustang soldiers on as the sharpest coupe of the model yet alongside the best handling Mustang available to the public for purchase.
