2020 Ford Mustang Specs & Details

The 2020 Mustang goes into the year with few changes on the surface, but underneath there have been some major changes made. On the outside, the Mustang’s appearance has remained the same, focusing on sharpening body lines and tightening up the appearance by improving the quality of the parts used in the interior to fully bring the car into the performance and near-luxury market. With two new models making their debut for the 2020 model year, Ford has shown their focus on performance vehicles while other competitors have begun to face issues in their design languages.

2020 Mustang

The first of the new performance offerings on the Mustang platform comes in on the EcoBoost model in the form of the High-Performance Package. Including the engine from the Focus RS and upgraded exhaust, this package offers serious value for the money since it prices below the cost of a base model Mustang GT by around $3,000 and offers surprisingly similar performance. Available as both a coupe and a convertible, the High-Performance Package can be had with either the 6-speed manual gearbox or the 10-speed automatic which both have been tuned to perform better than the normal setup found in the base and premium packages. Add the EcoBoost Handling Package, and you’ve got yourself a serious autocross contender right out of the box!

While the EcoBoost High-Performance Package brings performance to the lower price range, the all-new Shelby GT500 sits atop the entire lineup at $70,000 and is powered by the new Predator 5.2 liter supercharged V8 cranking out 760 horsepower! The car puts the power down through an all-new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission as the only gearbox available. While this is a first where the top performance model does not offer a manual, the dual-clutch gearbox works perfectly with the motor and propels the GT500 to an electronically limited top speed of 180 miles per hour. This car was designed to compete against the top performance models from rival brands, which means the Camaro ZL1 1LE, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye, and the Corvette Z06, and Ford did not hold back when it comes to performance in the Shelby.

The Mustang outside of these two vehicles has remained about the same with tweaks to improve the chassis, shifter, and exhaust note to tie the car together as an even more complete package than before. With options like the California Special for appearance and the GT350 and GT350R for performance above all else, the Mustang offers a wide variety of packages to choose from to help make the Mustang most suited to you and your needs. As the Mustang moves into these higher performance and more luxurious markets, this car continues proving to others what an all-around vehicle it can be for both daily use and track time.
