Superchargers

Ever since enthusiasts could modify their Mustang, it has been a never-ending battle to pull every ounce of power out your engine. It all started due to the late great Carroll Shelby when he created the Shelby GT350/GT350R using naturally aspirated horsepower in the 302 H/O (High-Output) V8. Since then, he helped Mustang engine performance progress forward to what we know it to be today. His contributions helped Ford engineers create engines like the legendary 5.0L pushrod V8 found in all Fox Body era Mustang GT models, Terminator Cobra 4.6L supercharged 32V V8, 5.0L Coyote V8, and 5.8L "Trinity" Supercharged 32V V8 found in the Shelby GT500.

Most enthusiasts find these engines to be spectacular in their stock form, but most Mustang enthusiasts are not for the faint of heart. As for most V8 engine applications, there is only so much you can do to a stock naturally aspirated motor to pull as much horsepower as possible. The easy solution is to add two different types of superchargers: roots-style, twin-screw, and centrifugal. All of these are going to add substantial horsepower to your Mustang engine but deliver the power differently. For example, a 2013-2014 Shelby GT500 already comes with a staggering 662 horsepower from the factory.

To improve upon this already enormous power, an enthusiast will add a 3.6L Whipple Supercharger that can make upwards of twenty pounds of boost, which will increase horsepower to a staggering 1000 crank horsepower. With supporting modifications such as long-tube headers, cold air intake, and cat-back exhaust. All of this combined will create a sound of freedom, unlike any other.
