Steeda’s 5th Annual Pony Wars at South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP) was a great success! Several hundred cars were in attendance, including Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers and more! The weather was absolutely perfect as it was in the mid-60’s in the morning and warmed up to the low-70’s. Team Steeda setting up the booth and getting ready for guests to arrive.
Our friends at VMP Superchargers decided to bring their fully custom mobile dyno! It even serves as a great way to tow in your racecar.

The team at Steeda was curious how our Vortech supercharged S550 pushing 671 rwhp would do at South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP) down the 1320 – while on street tires and still outfitted with our road racing suspension setup (sway bars on full stiffness). After being flogged by Evan Smith, former editor of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords, we took our S550 to the strip to see what she could do.
Even in 80% humidity this past weekend at SGMP, our Triple Yellow 2015 Mustang GT didn’t disappoint. We ran an 11.25 @ 126.78 mph on 20″ Nitto street tires, and there’s definitely a lot more we can get out of the car with a bit of fine-tuning; this is a daily drivable 671 rwhp monster that’s capable of high 10’s all while on the stock fuel pump and full luxuries of the interior.

Steeda is proud to introduce our new S550 Mustang GT Axle-Back Exhaust System! We’ve designed this fastback exhaust system to bring out the deep muscle car tone that’s begging to come out of your 5.0L powerhouse. Our exclusive axle-back exhaust design improves exhaust flow and is the perfect combination of sound and tone without introducing any unwanted drone.
Our axle-backs are constructed from 409-stainless steel, known for being corrosion-resistant. The tips of our Steeda axle-backs are made of polished 304-stainless steel and feature a laser-etched Steeda logo. The piping size is 3″ all the way up to the chambered mufflers – the tip size steps up to a nice big 4″ that fills in the factory rear valance perfectly.
Similar to other S550 axle-back exhausts, installation will require some fabrication – in order to install this axle-back kit, you will need to cut and remove the factory assembly. Once removed, our Steeda S550 axle-back system can be clamped on.

As many of you may know, Steeda has a long-standing relationship with Nitto Tire – we run their tires on many of our street/strip cars and recently had the exciting opportunity to perform track-testing for their all new Nitto NT555 G2 tires at Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR).
This kind of testing solely reflects the capabilities of the tires, brakes, and suspension equipped on the vehicle. From a driver-standpoint, it’s imperative to ensure the brakes are hit at the same point on the track at the same speed with max pressure applied to the brake pedal. This technique allows the vehicle’s Anti-Lock Brake system to do its job at peak performance. Considering both vehicles were identical in brakes and suspension, the only variable left was the tires being used. Data we gathered shows the NT555 G2 stopping the car in 76.5’ from 60mph, which is far superior than the current generation NT555 at 96.75’. One thing that these numbers do not show is directional control while applying the brakes – the NT555 G2 had a much more confidence-inspiring feeling transmitted through the steering wheel while the brakes were applied.
The NT555 never inspired the high-level of confidence that the G2 did while turning into and exiting the corner. What we mean by that is, the G2 – when turning into a corner – transmitted a feeling of the tires gripping sooner than the NT555 by the vehicle actually turning. When the driver feels that the vehicle is now changing in the intended direction that the driver planned, then the driver can place their focus on the exit of the corner maximizing the speed to the next corner; it’s at this point that the driver usually applies throttle to begin the acceleration process. During the acceleration process out of the turn is when forward grip is imperative to achieving a good lap time. The G2 allowed us to not only apply more throttle input, but also had less slip while exiting the corner. When tires slip during exiting a corner, it is usually the rear tires on a rear wheel drive vehicle (such as the S550) resulting in oversteer. When the rear tires slip while coming out of a corner, they are no longer propelling the vehicle forward and instead usually the rear of the vehicle begins to slide in the opposite direction of the turn. If the tires are sliding, usually the driver has to react and either reduce the throttle, or alter the intended direction of the vehicle to compensate – neither of which help to reduce lap times. As we mentioned above, it is also worth noting that braking feel was considerably different between the NT555 vs G2. The G2 seemed to require less pedal pressure to achieve the same desired braking effect as the NT555 – this resulted in less weight transfer while under braking, and a more stabilized feeling while cornering the vehicle as the weight was not all transferred to the nose at turn-in or corner entry.

The team at Steeda Autosports has been hard at work developing new parts for the S550 platform and we’ve turned our Triple Yellow Q650 2015 Mustang GT into a corner-carving track monster. Pumping out 686 rwhp on 10 psi and pump gas, it’s a force to be reckoned with both on and off the track.
“Our objective with the Q650 and our Q-series of Mustangs is to build a track-ready car that outperforms much more expensive cars for far less money,” said Dario Orlando. “We manufacture and sell our own parts so you can purchase a complete car with the Steeda package installed, or add the parts to your existing Mustang. For the 2015, we first built a mockup of the front and rear suspensions. This allowed us to analyze the suspension arrangement and note the areas of concern as they relate to high performance. We’re looking to satisfy the performance-minded enthusiasts who wants a fast, capable street car that is ready for the track.”

The entire installation process took about 2 hours – not bad. Especially when you know your turbocharged 4-cylinder engine won’t overheat with this oil cooler as it pumps out over 300 horsepower. This Mishimoto 2015 EcoBoost Oil Cooler is a direct fit, which makes installation a breeze.
Mishimoto offers their oil cooler in either silver or black and they also give you the option to choose between a billet aluminum oil sandwich plate or thermostatic oil sandwich plate. For our installation, we went with the silver oil cooler and the thermostatic oil sandwich plate since we wanted a faster warmup at startup.
All of the parts needed for the installation were included:

Mounting Hardware Set
First we lifted our 2015 EcoBoost so we could remove the undertray. After that was completed, we used a flathead screwdriver to remove the eight pop clips that fastened the plastic air diversion cover.

The third stage in this installation process was removing the front bumper. This stage consists of removing the front bumper hardware which are four pop clips, six 8mm screws and two 7mm bolts that are near each headlight behind the fender liner; and unclipping the bumper and six wire harnesses for the turn signals, headlights, and fog lights from the vehicle.

Next we removed the air dam, the air shutter arm and all other connectors that connect to the air shutter motor and the ambient temperature sensor. We also removed the lower grill shutters as well as the arm that attaches the lower shutters to the upper shutters. This gives us the room we need to install the Mishimoto 2015 EcoBoost Oil Cooler.

We then removed our oil filter so that the Mishimoto sandwich plate can attach in place by using the 3/4″ x 16 Stainless Steel adapter.

To avoid any unwanted friction, we lubricated the O-ring on the sandwich plate before fastening it in. Once the sandwich plate and straight fittings are all fastened and secured, we attached the stainless steel braided fittings with the 120 degree fittings connected to the sandwich plate.

We then lubricated the O-ring and reinstalled the oil filter. Next we snaked the oil lines so that they were next to the steering rack. The shorter oil line with the 45 degree fitting was routed into place first since it was the first to be attached to the oil cooler.
We detached the front support bars in order to attach the oil cooler with its application-specific mounting brackets.

After the oil cooler was mounted, we attached the 45 degree fitting and the longer hose with the 90 degree fitting to the oil cooler. We then started reattaching all of the parts we removed during the install!

After our 2 hour installation, we couldn’t wait to test it out on the road and track. The Mishimoto 2015 EcoBoost Oil Cooler reduced our oil temperatures by up to 35+°F. The oil cooler receives the most airflow by being mounted at the front of the vehicle which cools the engine’s oil faster and more efficiently, which is always a good thing with a forced induction setup.

The Track Guys have been hosting performance driving education events at Sebring International Raceway since 2001. And this past 2015 Sebring Sensation gave advanced and beginner performance drivers a chance to fine tune their skills out on the famous Sebring International Raceway. All the drivers and their cars were divided into four groups depending on their skill level, this gave everyone ample amounts of time out on the track.
Performance drivers were given the opportunity to compete against their fellow class drivers in the Steeda Hot Lap Challenge. This timed race was also divided into groups of stock, modified and race – which were all timed by transponders.
Customers and Mustang enthusiasts alike had the opportunity to feel superior power and performance by riding in one of the many Steeda Mustangs that attended the event. However, Steeda was out at Sebring for an additional reason. We had our minds set on testing our 2015 Steeda Q650 Vortech supercharged Mustang GT loaded with our suspension upgrades out on the track.
Since Q4 2014, we’ve been hard at work to create this build list. Our dedication and premier engineering was solidified after testing our 2015 Triple Yellow Mustang GT at Sebring the last weekend in May. Pinpoint handling, quick steering response, planted suspension, and extreme horsepower were just some of the key highlights our Steeda Mustang brought to the raceway.

Unlike our competitors’ kits that will absolutely increase NVH (noise, vibration, harshness), take 3-4 hours to install and force you to permanently modify the rear IRS suspension with a sawzall, Steeda’s does not! Our kit installs in under 1 hour, adds ZERO increase in NVH, is adjustable and can be easily removed – it simply doesn’t get any better than this!
Minimize pinion angle changes, increase traction, eliminate wheel hop and differential deflection with Steeda’s new kit. Made from high-strength urethane to our exact specifications and durometers, our kit comes with 2 different bushing options – red ‘street’ 80 durometer bushings and our black ‘performance’ 90 durometer bushings. Both bushing options will increase performance with no increase in NVH, a Steeda-exclusive.

Once again, this is not a permanent modification – there is no drilling, cutting or pressing required. Simply loosen and remove a couple bolts and this kit installs in less than 1 hour. Bushings are included for both the front and rear differential mounting locations in addition to grade 10.9 hardware with zinc-plated washers.
We also knew we needed a kit for the hardcore racers out there! So our Aluminum Race Differential Bushing Insert System is made in-house from billet 6061 aluminum, this is not a permanent modification – there is no drilling, cutting or pressing required. Simply loosen and remove a couple bolts and this kit installs in less than 1 hour. Aluminum bushings are included for both the front and rear differential mounting locations in addition to grade 10.9 hardware with zinc-plated washers.
