Steeda Suspensions Deliver the “Need for Speed”

Recently DreamWorks Pictures’ hit movie “Need for Speed” had it’s debut in theaters world-wide and the overriding star of the movie is a specially constructed and modified 2014 Mustang GT500 wide-body coupe. The movie is filled with action packed stunts and fast-paced driving as the starring Mustang holds its own against a variety of supercars from around the world. Steeda Autosports was actively involved with the preparation of the movie, supplying all of the various upgraded suspension components that turned the stock Mustang into an asphalt-carving performance machine.

Need For Speed Mustang

Based on the most successful racing video game franchise ever with over 140 million copies sold, “Need for Speed” captures the freedom and excitement of the game in a real-world setting, while bringing to life the passion for the road that has made our love of cars so timeless.

Steeda Developing 2015 Mustang Parts

Steeda Autosports – the largest independent manufacturer of performance parts for Ford vehicles is actively involved in the ongoing development of performance parts and accessories for the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang. For this all-new platform, we are developing comprehensive suspension system enhancements, chassis stiffening components, and engine upgrade components (tunes and cold air intakes) that will further enhance the overall vehicle ‘s performance without compromising the vehicle dynamics. For 2015 Mustang wheels we are working on a complete line of fitments that will allow you to run wider Nitto tires for improved traction and grip. Want a 2015 Mustang exhaust kit with reduced back pressure and enhanced sound, we will have that too! From 2015 Mustang Brakes, 2015 Mustang Shifters, to 2015 Mustang Power Packs, you can count on Steeda to be YOUR source for all 2015 Mustang Performance Parts.

The Racetrack – Steeda’s “Outdoor” Engineering Room

At Steeda Autosports, we take racing very seriously because we use it as an active “test bed” for our ongoing engineering and product development. Our thought is that if our products can stand up to the extreme abuse and punishment that the race track can provide, it surely will stand up to the rigors of street driving without fail. While racing sometimes is characterized as a sport for the wealthy or a marketing tool to promote a company, at Steeda Autosports, racing is where we test and re-test our products, parts, and our theories – as racing will either prove that the theory is correct, or it will destroy it altogether.

Let us explain…..

We actively race in a race series that promotes product development and engineering while many other companies either do not race at all, or they choose to race in a race series that restricts engineering and product development and requires, in many cases, stock OEM suspension level componentry. On the surface, one would think that all race series are equal with regards to what you can run and what you can modify. In actuality, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Many race series have part/component rules that are so restrictive that they effectively put a “hard stop” to any ongoing product design/engineering development, severely hindering any product advancement for consumer performance parts.

Steeda Q650R at Sebring International Raceway

At Steeda, we take a far different approach to racing…..a far more serious approach…..and it is a far more rewarding choice for you – our customer. We prefer to race in a variety of race series that allows for more vehicle suspension development and with less overall restrictions – that way we can actively use the racing as an active test bed for ongoing product development and product advancement. We prefer to call the track our “outdoor engineering room” where we continually test performance parts and accessories ensuring that they deliver the level of performance that they are designed to provide, and also we want to ensure that they have the durability to stand up to whatever our customers demand.

An example of the racing we do occurred this past weekend when our President and CEO Dario Orlando took the Steeda #20 car to Sebring International Raceways for the Sports Car Club of America’s South Atlantic Road Racing Championships event. With our #20 car in full race prep form and equipped with both production and developmental Steeda parts, Dario put in many hard test laps in preparation for qualification. When qualification was complete, Dario and our #20 car was on an all too familiar position – on the class pole position ahead of all other class competitors effectively showcasing that the Steeda suspension system was perfectly dialed in once again.

This year you will see much more of Team Steeda at the race track and the drag strip. In addition to the many racers that rely on our performance parts, the top management Team at Steeda Dario Orlando and Glen Vitale will both be campaigning the red #20 car at various SCCA events – both timed, lap, and endurance races as we embark on the design, engineering and development of new suspension components for the all new S550 Mustang platform. Our goal is to have a comprehensive array of enhanced suspension components for the 2015 Mustang available by the time the first cars are being sold. These parts will be for the street, track and drag strip enthusiast and will all have the legendary Steeda engineering, performance, and durability – just another example as to how we put the customer first in everything we do.

Not So Slippery When Wet

While most of America was nestled up in their comfy warm houses recently, Steeda was at the Transportation Research Center (TRC) test track in East Liberty, Ohio with a leading tire manufacturer testing various tire applications to evaluate tread noise, test tire adhesion properties, and improve overall tire performance in both wet, snowy, and frigid conditions. TRC is one of the few tracks in the world to offer this level of testing sophistication and only our vehicles were there during this comprehensive testing session. Closed to the public, this facility has virtually every road surface imaginable and also a vast variety of skid pads, high and low speed ovals and also various race track configurations.

Steeda Mustang

At Steeda, our regularly conducted tire tests occur on the race track (Sebring), drag strip (South Georgia Motorsports Park), on the street, and at special road surface research centers like the TRC. How many other aftermarket companies are dedicated enough to do cold and wet weather tire and suspension testing in addition to the more normal temperature and dry condition testing that we do? This is what separates Steeda from the rest as we continually serve the best interest of our customers in everything we do. We test against the elements so that when you need our products to perform, they will under any conditions – both good and bad.

This collaboration of Steeda and tire engineers had the combined mission of refining and developing the latest emerging tire technology with the quest of producing a tire that provides not only superior performance, but also superior safety under the wide variety of driving conditions you may encounter.

Tire testing is no easy task and is virtually impossible for the everyday driver to properly and completely evaluate tires accurately because, in addition to the “seat of the pants” experience you obtain by doing this for many-many years, complicated and often proprietary equipment is utilized to accurately measure a tires performance characteristics under varying conditions and temperatures. Following is a brief, yet accurate summary of what tire testing is all about.

What makes up a tire today?

Tires today are extremely complex in their construction and manufacturing. While they might look like simple pieces of rubber in a round shape, that assessment couldn’t be farther from the truth. The inner workings of modern tires are incredibly complex and are becoming more and more complex with every new generation of tires that evolves. There’s a vast amount of materials used in sidewall and tread pattern production, including steel, polyester, Kevlar, and other more unique materials. Additionally, there are a vast variety of different rubber compounds used to produce different heat ratings, speed ratings, and load limits. Add it all together, and you can readily see that there is a substantial amount of engineering and chemistry that goes into the development of each tire today. These added complications are a necessary ingredient in formulating a tire because incremental improvements require them.

The Tire Testing Process

Usually – non-laboratory tire testing is performed on a group of tires with similar performance characteristics. Specifically, a group of high performance tires will likely be tested together at the same day under the same driving conditions. With each new test, the tires will be mounted onto the same vehicle and undergo the same tests in order to offer consistency to the testing process. By conducting the same tests, it’s possible to test how different variables affect a particular tire as compared to other tires. Some of the tests we employ address everything from braking on dry and on wet surfaces, handling at low and at high speeds, and handling during acceleration and deceleration.

The test results allow our engineers to compare tires on much more than how the tire looks in theory on paper or how much it costs to manufacture. Instead, we are able to find tires that are perfect for the vehicles we manufacture parts for and make sure that our performance parts leverages the maximum amount of performance available. In summary – tire testing offers excellent insight as we select and recommend tires for our Ford performance enthusiasts, as well as confirmation that our performance parts and accessories perform as designed under all driving conditions. It is one of many “behind the scenes” things we do on behalf of our Ford performance customers – we affectionately call it: “The Steeda Difference”

A Special New Year Message

Dario OrlandoAs we approach the dawn of yet another new year, it is very important for us to also reflect upon 2013 and realize just how fortunate we really are. First 2013 Manual GT500 In The 8′s Equipped With Steeda Parts

Every drag racer knows that putting power to the pavement effectively is the key to securing low quarter mile ET times. You can have all the horsepower in the world – and if you can’t “hook-up” the car to maximize traction, you will just be spinning your wheels in despair. And when you have an engine pumping 1,156 RWHP and 1,078 RWTQ numbers, the challenge of minimizing wheel-spin is even greater as you need to have effective weight transfer and inherent traction to effectively launch the car the entire quarter mile.

Evolution Performance GT500

Evolution Performance GT500

The team at Evolution Performance came to Steeda Autosports when they needed to acquire the very best suspension and other components to maximize the traction of their 2013 GT500. Digging into our extensive parts bin, we were able to supply them some key regular Steeda production parts that we manufacture that were sure to stand up to the massive amount of abuse they would be subjected them to – all in the quest to be the very first in the world to get a GT500 with a standard transmission into the highly coveted 8-second range.

The end result is is a quarter mile time of 8.94 seconds at 159 MPH, with an impressive 1.346 second 60 foot time! Not bad for tipping the scale at a hefty 3,854 pounds! The First and only GT500 with a stock manual transmission to break into the magical 8 second range. We congratulate Evolution Performance for their commitment and dedication to their quarter mile assault and also for relying on Steeda Autosports for some of their performance parts needs. Needless to say, we were 100% confident that our production parts would do the job they were designed to do. From maximizing traction, to ensuring proper weight transfer, the key is to have the proper parts for the job at hand. So whether you are building a quarter mile assault vehicle like Evolution Performance has done, a car that you want to out handle anyone on the track, or just a daily cruiser that you can enjoy from curve to curve or stop-light to stop-light….you can count on Steeda to supply the specific parts you need.

All of our Steeda performance products are engineered and manufactured under strict ISO 9001-2008 Standards so they will exceed your expectations and leave others in your dust.

Steeda Autosport Leads in Technology Sharing and Quality

The relationship between Steeda Autosports and Ford Motor Company has its roots back to the inception of Steeda when we first opened our doors with our collaboration with Ford on many performance based projects and vehicles. Later, when Ford Motor Company was launching the ground breaking Ford/SEMA Technology sharing program, Steeda Autosports was a leader in this initiative, participating on the advisory/steering committee and actively drafting the program scope so achieve the greatest possible benefit to Ford performance enthusiasts. With a primary focus on vehicle and component quality, this initiative was the first time in automotive history where this “secret” information was made available to the aftermarket.

The Ford/SEMA Technology Initiative Sharing Program ensures a robust exchange of key technical and testing information related to Ford vehicles. At Steeda, before we sell any new part, we take extra steps to ensure that our parts will not cause a related or unrelated component failure where your new car warranty could potentially be jeopardized. Whenever you see the Steeda name on a product it is YOUR GUARANTEE that that part is the highest quality available, and that it has been made to ensure that the integrity and value of your new car is not compromised. Designed, engineered, and manufactured under exceptionally strict ISO 9001:2008 guidelines, our parts exceed most new car warranty requirements and are proudly made here in the USA.

One should have caution however when purchasing other aftermarket parts and accessories from other manufacturers and retailers. You should make sure that whatever part you are buying is made under these strict certified guidelines to ensure their quality. Question to see that if their part fails and subsequently causes a Ford warranted part to fail they will stand behind and warrant the Ford part on your behalf.

Do some investigation and make sure that the aftermarket company you are considering purchasing from has a current ISO 9001:2008 certification. Question whether their parts are manufactured offshore in developing countries or in substandard facilities. Ask them why are their parts made overseas. The real answer is readily apparent – because it is cheaper and it gives them a higher profit margin. Remember the old saying, “You get what you pay for.” Is a foreign-made substandard part what you really want to put on your American performance vehicle? At Steeda Autosports, we have an ISO 9001:2008 certified, state of the art manufacturing facility in Valdosta, Georgia and we are fully committed to ensuring that every part you purchase from us is the absolute best it can be.
