However, unlike TREMEC’s more docile OEM products, the XL unleashes the TR-6060’s true performance potential with features like a direct-mount short-throw shifter, beefy 31-spline output, race-proven slip yoke rear interface, and ‘blowproof’ steel clutch housing for added safety. Combined with the TREMEC-spec’d twin disc clutch and lightweight aluminum flywheel, the result is a true driver’s delight—hard-hitting, visceral, and extremely fun to operate.

Delivering an unbeatable combination of speed and handling like you’ve never seen, and utilizing every bit of suspension magic that we have developed in our ISO 9001:2008 certified processes, the overall handling, acceleration, and performance of the S550 Mustang platform is taken to an unprecedented level of performance and refinement.

“The Steeda Q750 StreetFighter is the culmination of our 28 years of uninterrupted and continuous refinement of the Mustang platform.” said Dario Orlando, President Steeda Autosports. “This is without a doubt, the absolute finest and best integrated performance automobile that we have ever produced, effectively taking the Mustang to new heights never before reached.”

Steeda’s Vortech S550 Goes 11.2 on Street Tires in Road Race Trim

The team at Steeda was curious how our Vortech supercharged S550 pushing 671 rwhp would do at South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP) down the 1320 – while on street tires and still outfitted with our road racing suspension setup (sway bars on full stiffness). After being flogged by Evan Smith, former editor of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords, we took our S550 to the strip to see what she could do.

Even in 80% humidity this past weekend at SGMP, our Triple Yellow 2015 Mustang GT didn’t disappoint. We ran an 11.25 @ 126.78 mph on 20″ Nitto street tires, and there’s definitely a lot more we can get out of the car with a bit of fine-tuning; this is a daily drivable 671 rwhp monster that’s capable of high 10′s all while on the stock fuel pump and full luxuries of the interior.

Stay tuned for updates as we aim for the 10′s with our 2015 GT!

Steeda and Nitto Tire Testing NT555 G2

As many of you may know, Steeda has a long-standing relationship with Nitto Tire – we run their tires on many of our street/strip cars and recently had the exciting opportunity to perform track-testing for their all new Nitto NT555 G2 tires at Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR).

We brought out two S550 Performance Pack GT’s with equal entry-level mods (Steeda springs, Steeda IRS subframe bushing support system, Steeda cold air intake, Steeda tune) to perform an apples-to-apples test comparing their existing NT555 tire to their all-new NT555 G2 tire.

60-0 Braking:
This kind of testing solely reflects the capabilities of the tires, brakes, and suspension equipped on the vehicle. From a driver-standpoint, it’s imperative to ensure the brakes are hit at the same point on the track at the same speed with max pressure applied to the brake pedal. This technique allows the vehicle’s Anti-Lock Brake system to do its job at peak performance. Considering both vehicles were identical in brakes and suspension, the only variable left was the tires being used. Data we gathered shows the NT555 G2 stopping the car in 76.5’ from 60mph, which is far superior than the current generation NT555 at 96.75’. One thing that these numbers do not show is directional control while applying the brakes – the NT555 G2 had a much more confidence-inspiring feeling transmitted through the steering wheel while the brakes were applied.

Driving Experience:
The NT555 never inspired the high-level of confidence that the G2 did while turning into and exiting the corner. What we mean by that is, the G2 – when turning into a corner – transmitted a feeling of the tires gripping sooner than the NT555 by the vehicle actually turning. When the driver feels that the vehicle is now changing in the intended direction that the driver planned, then the driver can place their focus on the exit of the corner maximizing the speed to the next corner; it’s at this point that the driver usually applies throttle to begin the acceleration process. During the acceleration process out of the turn is when forward grip is imperative to achieving a good lap time. The G2 allowed us to not only apply more throttle input, but also had less slip while exiting the corner. When tires slip during exiting a corner, it is usually the rear tires on a rear wheel drive vehicle (such as the S550) resulting in oversteer. When the rear tires slip while coming out of a corner, they are no longer propelling the vehicle forward and instead usually the rear of the vehicle begins to slide in the opposite direction of the turn. If the tires are sliding, usually the driver has to react and either reduce the throttle, or alter the intended direction of the vehicle to compensate – neither of which help to reduce lap times. As we mentioned above, it is also worth noting that braking feel was considerably different between the NT555 vs G2. The G2 seemed to require less pedal pressure to achieve the same desired braking effect as the NT555 – this resulted in less weight transfer while under braking, and a more stabilized feeling while cornering the vehicle as the weight was not all transferred to the nose at turn-in or corner entry.

NT555 Key Benefits:
- compound that offers balance between tread wear and traction
- stable cornering due to reinforced tread blocks
- wide contact patch

NT555 G2 Key Benefits:
- cornering stability due to directional tread pattern
- increased wet traction performance
- increased braking performance
- wide contact patch

We’re really excited for the release of Nitto’s NT555 G2 line and highly recommend them for the S550! Here are some photos from the event!

Track Guys 2015 Sebring Sensation

The Track Guys have been hosting performance driving education events at Sebring International Raceway since 2001. And this past 2015 Sebring Sensation gave advanced and beginner performance drivers a chance to fine tune their skills out on the famous Sebring International Raceway. All the drivers and their cars were divided into four groups depending on their skill level, this gave everyone ample amounts of time out on the track.

Sebring Sensation 2015

Performance drivers were given the opportunity to compete against their fellow class drivers in the Steeda Hot Lap Challenge. This timed race was also divided into groups of stock, modified and race – which were all timed by transponders.

Customers and Mustang enthusiasts alike had the opportunity to feel superior power and performance by riding in one of the many Steeda Mustangs that attended the event. However, Steeda was out at Sebring for an additional reason. We had our minds set on testing our 2015 Steeda Q650 Vortech supercharged Mustang GT loaded with our suspension upgrades out on the track.

Since Q4 2014, we’ve been hard at work to create this build list. Our dedication and premier engineering was solidified after testing our 2015 Triple Yellow Mustang GT at Sebring the last weekend in May. Pinpoint handling, quick steering response, planted suspension, and extreme horsepower were just some of the key highlights our Steeda Mustang brought to the raceway.

2015 NMRA Bradenton – Steeda-Equipped Racer John Urist Sets Class Record!

We had a great turnout this weekend at the 2015 NMRA event at Bradenton Motorsports Park. There were plenty of racing categories such as the Street Outlaw class and the Edelbrock Renegade class, although one of our favorites was the True Street class which was actually started by Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords and Tremec back in 1995.

If you’re looking to prove your True Street Mustang on the track, the event begins with a 30-mile escorted cruise with other True Street racers, passengers and crew members which serves the purpose of proving street-worthiness of all cars competing in the True Street class. Once the 30-mile cruise is complete, all racers head to the track for three back-to-back passes – racers aren’t allowed to work on their cars prior to racing, which also proves street-worthiness.

One of the highlights for Steeda was seeing John Urist qualify number one with a 6.86 pass at 204 mph – the quickest pass in class history! Urist had stiff competition on his heels with the next competitor making a pass at 6.88. The cloud cover broke on Sunday, and Urist’s Steeda-sponsored Mustang worked as expected to assist in running back-to-back 6.90′s to take the win! Urist is heading to the Atlanta races to continue showing the world what it takes to be a champion!

Steeda Supports the 2014 Annual Patriot Day Car Cruise to the Keys

September 11, 2001 was the date of one of the most terrible tragedies ever to occur on American soil. For the 10th straight year, the Stangs of South Florida, an automotive enthusiast club and internet forum made up of over 1,000 local members who all drive and share the passion for the Ford Mustang, reunited to pay tribute to those who lost their lives that sad day, and also to commemorate our many wounded warriors. The Patriot Day Car Cruise was proudly sponsored by Steeda Autosports and is an annual fundraiser event that benefits the Wounded Warrior Project.

9/11 Patriot Run

9/11 Patriot Run

This year, even threatening weather could not hold back the diehard Mustang enthusiasts as the event had its largest crowd ever commemorating September 11th and supporting our wounded warriors.

The day started under the threat of bad weather, but that didn’t stop anybody as there was a procession of over 150 cars led by a special Miami-Dade Police car and also one of very our special prototype Steeda F150 trucks. The sight of all of these vehicles together in procession, all commemorating 9/11 was indeed captivating and also memorizing. The procession departed Tropical Park in Miami, and traveled to its destination at Robbie’s Marina in the Keys.

Cars Are Rolling In!

In addition to the procession, there was also a car show where special awards were given to the top vehicles on display and an ensuing commemorative party where many toasts and salutes were made to those who lost their lives that sad day and also to our many wounded warriors and first responders.

This Hood is Quite Patriotic!

Steeda Takes 1st Place at SCCA Enduro Championship Race

The SCCA race action at the Homestead-Miami Speedway this past weekend was hot, with blistering near 100 degree conditions on the track and over 120 degree conditions in the race car, and the race results were even hotter when the #20 Steeda prepared Mustang not only captured both pole positions but also finished in first place beating all other cars including various built Porsche, BMW, Corvette race cars and purpose built race cars.

Using approximately half of the famed Homestead-Miami oval and all of the infield road course, the circuit was a challenging one that incorporated high speed areas where speeds exceeded 150 mph and slower hairpin turns where you were forced to slow to a crawl to negotiate a 180° tight hairpin turns. In order to win at this circuit, a properly prepared car needed to be able to have the power and stability for high speeds, and also the cornering ability to stay tight in the turns and out-handle everyone else. Suffice to say – the Steeda G-Trac suspension system was up to the task as it was able to overcome all challenges and perform as it was designed and engineered to do.

Steeda Q650R Mustang

For the first race SARRC race, our President and CEO Dario Orlando took our #20 Steeda Q650R and qualified for the pole position and when it came to the race, he never looked back as he was able to finish in first place – an indication of even greater accomplishments that were to be forthcoming later that day (more on that later). During this initial race, a challenging Corvette lacked the braking required for a hairpin turn – crashed into the rear of our car and went careening off course. The suspension system of the #20 Steeda maintained its composure and remained on line – even when it was subjected to the crash forces from the Corvette that could have unbalanced the car and also sent it out of control…further testament to the road hugging attributes of the Steeda suspension system.

Steeda’s Glen Vitale and Q650R

The next race was a 1.5 hour-long endurance race that would be sure to challenge the most seasoned drivers, cars, and crews. This race required mandatory pit stop and driver changes and when you factor in the blistering heat, it was going to be a real dual at the track. With 35 cars entered, our Vice President Glen Vitale was able to qualify on the pole position with the fastest time overall. When the green flag dropped, Dario was able to pilot the Q650R expertly and was able to hold off many challenges as the Q650R performed as intended. At the 45 minute mark, Dario pitted and our own Glen took the wheel piloting the Q650R. With Glen’s driving attitude of “drive it like I stole it” – he further increased the lead that Dario provided him and when the checkered flag dropped, the Steeda Q650R lapped the ENTIRE field in route to a commanding victory in this most challenging endurance race.

Steeda VP, Glen Vitale and Steeda CEO, Dario Orlando

It should be noted that for both races, our Steeda Q650R was equipped with Nitto DOT tires… yes… we used a street tire on our car to further test and subsequently prove the capabilities of the Nitto brand verses the full competition only tires that the other competitors were running. The Nitto tires showed their superiority of design and construction by lasting for the entire race and by providing the superior corning and wear attributes that the Nitto brand is most famous for.

Steeda Q450 Mustang Pace Car at Homestead

Our #20 Steeda Q650R serves as a rolling test-bed for many of the suspension items we engineer, develop and sell. Unlike most other companies, we have a guiding philosophy that mandates we test under the most severe conditions the various performance parts we develop with the realization that putting them into actual race conditions that it will either prove the functionality and durability of the part, or it will destroy it. That way our customers are guaranteed that a Steeda performance part is the best it can possibly be and that it will be sure to live up to the rigors that they may subject their cars to without fail. We call it “Race Tested Confidence”.

Steeda Celebrates Mustang 50th at Charlotte

This past week marked the 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang and there were plenty of celebrations around the country to celebrate this once in a lifetime event for the original Pony Car. From New York, Las Vegas, Charlotte, and in many other small towns across America, the faithful all paid homage to Americas original pony car – The Ford Mustang. Steeda Autosports was to be a presenting sponsor of the 50th Anniversary Celebration at the Charlotte Motor Speedway where approximately 4000 Mustangs and over 100,000 people converged together to make it one huge Mustang Birthday Celebration to remember forever.

Mustang 50th Anniversary

In the corporate display area, we showcased the following four Steeda Mustangs in our display – all of which have made a significant contribution to the rich history of Mustangs and Steeda over the years:

1993 Steeda Cobra R

Steeda Autosports was actively involved in the 1993 Cobra R development program by incorporating the knowledge we had acquired in our racing program to the SVT engineers. One of our contributions to the car was assisting SVT with the design of the vehicles braking system – ensuring that the completed design would have the stamina and capabilities to stand up to the rigors of road racing. Ford ended up building only 107 of the1993 Cobra “R” models – each of them in Vibrant Red and they were available for sale only to licensed race-drivers. At Sebring International Raceway in 1993, our Steeda Cobra R was the very first Cobra R to have success on a racetrack by finishing first in its inaugural race – a huge feat at the time for a new model incorporating new technologies for its time.

1995 Steeda Cobra R

In the wake of the 1993 Cobra R’s success, SVT engineers embarked on a mission to developed a more powerful and more competitive R-model based on the 1995 Cobra. Once again SVT engineers collaborated with Steeda Autosports on the development of this model as we provided key racing insights and engineering assistance to bring the car to reality. One of our top priorities was the need for a more powerful engine and more fuel capacity. In response, SVT incorporated an SVT modified version of Ford’s 5.8 liter Windsor V8, re-engineered to produce 300 horsepower. To provide for longer time on the track racing, we collaborated on the inclusion of a 22-gallon racing fuel cell that increased the cars time on the track and less time in the pits refilling. Weight-savings was targeted, so there was no back seat, radio, power windows/seats or air-conditioning-not even fog lights, which were omitted to provide ducts for getting cool air onto the front disk brakes. Heavy-duty progressive-rate springs, thicker stabilizer bars and a front strut tower brace helped improve handling. Only 250 vehicles were built, available only in white with Saddle Cloth interior, each with a unique center-tiered fiberglass hood tall enough to clear the engine and induction system. As with the 1993 Cobra R, only owners of a valid racing license were able to obtain one of these cars. Our Steeda 1995 Cobra R was the first Mustang to win a pole position in professional IMSA GS Class competition – a major feat and endorsement of our engineering successes. It’s success didn’t end there, as it set a new track record at Daytona in the inaugural IMSA Endurance race. In 1996 at the Texas Motor Speedway, the Steeda Cobra R won it’s first IMSA race for a Mustang in over a decade by lapping the 65 car field twice during the grueling 6-hour endurance race. Success continued in with first place finishes at both Mosport Park and Daytona – proving that the Steeda Cobra R program was a huge success.

2010 Steeda StreetFighter

Destined to reign supreme in the Pony Wars, this 690HP muscle machine is proof positive that Steeda Autosports builds the best performing Mustangs available anywhere. An ideal Mustang – a formidable weekend warrior on the racetrack or drag-strip that can also be comfortably driven daily. Outfitted with the most extensive standard suspension upgrades ever included on a Steeda production vehicles – including our Watt’s Link Suspension system – this performance Mustang can easily pull 1.2gs. With a broad range of brutal power on demand, it turns 0-60 times under 4 seconds and quarter mile times comfortably in the 10 second range. There is simply no other serialized Mustang available today that offers the performance, styling, and performance attitude of this dedicated StreetFighter.

2014 Steeda Q450 Enforcer

Showcasing our current line of performance-bred parts for the ford Mustang, this Q-Series Steeda Mustang is the flagship of our serialized vehicle program and is specially designed for hardcore, power-hungry performance enthusiasts who want the most Mustang muscle for their money. This performance stallion provides plenty of pure pony power to humble the competition every time you turn the ignition key and hit the throttle. Power means nothing without control, so the Q450 precision-engineered suspension and chassis modifications keep the driver in command and deliver an unbeatable level of performance. With strategic modifications all tuned to maximize performance and provide optimum handling, the Q450 is a no-holds-barred approach that delivers pure hardcore driving excitement.

During show hours in the paddock area there were multiple Steeda representatives on hand to supporting on track activities – including our “Ace in the Hole” Master Mechanic Steve Chichisola, Regional and National American Iron Champion Driver Robin Burnett, Camaro-Mustang Challenge Champion James Ray, and the NASA – SE Champion Jim Edwards. Each of these great racing enthusiasts shared racing knowledge and experiences and were on hand to provide some lucky show attendees a first hand look at their race cars as well as a ride-of-their life. Following is a profile of just two of the Steeda cars that were blistering around the track:

Steeda Q650R

Built by our renown “Skunk Works Team” at Steeda Autosports, the Q650R serves as a rolling test bed for continuing refinement and development of our track tested and race proven performance parts and accessories. On the outside, the Q650R is outfitted on the outside with key Steeda’s aerodynamic parts (e.g. Steeda Race Wing, Steeda Competition Front Fascia). Under the hood, the Ford modular engine is boosted with the Steeda/Vortech supercharger system and the race tuning is handled by our unique Steeda Performance Calibration – the end result… over 650 horsepower of heart pounding excitement. Inside the Steeda Tri-Ax Remote Racing provides an extremely short throw with precise action needed for the race track. Under the car is where some really advanced Steeda suspension technology is deployed. From the advanced adjustable full coil over suspension system, our proprietary Watt’s Linkage, to our D Spec Shocks and bump steer kit, the entire catalog of Steeda’s superior suspension parts as well as Nitto’s famed NT01 high performance tires – and some extra experimental suspension enhancements as well – have been integrated into this car so as to make it the BEST HANDLING car we have ever driven on a race track. The end result: An ultra high performance – muscular race car that provides instant acceleration, superior handling, and great fear into the minds of our competitors.

Steeda Q450R

Driven by Regional and National American Iron Champion Robin Burnett, this 2010 Steeda Q450R regularly competes in the American Iron Series that provides a highly competitive forum for Mustangs, Camaros, and Firebirds to race against each other. The power of the modified Ford Modular engine is delivered through a Tremex 3650 5 speed transmission and complemented by a precision tuned Steeda suspension system that helps deliver all that added power to the wheels while keeping the driver in total control – perfect for weekend warrior racing at tracks around America.

Overall, everyone completely enjoyed their time at the 50th Anniversary Celebration. The outstanding camaraderie, great cars, and on fast on-track experiences all made it a truly exciting manner to celebrate Mustangs first 50 years. Congratulations to Ford Motor Company and Team Mustang for providing enthusiasts an outstanding pony car for the past 50 years!

The 2014 Pony Wars are Just Around The Corner!

The Pony Wars – the annual showdown at the South Georgia Motorsports Park (one of the top drag strips in the country) co-hosted by Steeda Autosports and LSR Performance is one event you do not want to miss. Scheduled for March 29th 2014, this event will once again be the ultimate showdown of Blue Oval, Bowtie, and Mopar pony car performance.

2014 Pony Wars

Steeda and LSR performance will be hosting a pre-race party Friday evening March 28th at Hooters in Valdosta, Georgia. The party will be a good opportunity for everyone to make introductions, check out the competition and set up those grudge races that are sure to occur on Saturday.

On Saturday morning, the event will kick off at Steeda’s Valdosta location with a tour of our manufacturing and distribution facilities. For those who attend, there will be a special Pony Wars discounted rate on Steeda parts, good that day only. From there we’ll head to South Georgia Motorsports Park to begin time trials in the form of a test and tune and grudge races both run on SGMP’s new stop light timing system. We’ll then sort cars into three classes based on closest ET’s and let them battle it out for prizes and bragging rights.
