New Steeda Focus ST Oil Separator for 2015-2017

steeda-focus-st-oil-separator-15-17-st-555-3714-0The Steeda Focus ST Oil Separator for 2015, 16, and 17 Focus ST models reduces detonation, oil burning and deposits on the valves by removing oil drawn through the PCV system before it can contaminate the intake charge. This is also very helpful with these turbo applications, where it is essential to keep oil from entering the turbo.

Excess crankcase pressure (sometimes known as “blow-by”) is vented from the crankcase through the PCV system, where it is drawn into the intake manifold and returned by the engine. This re-circulated air contains aerated oil from the crankcase which is burned by the engine. Supercharged, nitrous boosted and high mileage engines often draw excessive amounts of oil into the engine through the PCV system.

The Steeda Focus ST Oil Separator for 2015-2017 Focus ST plugs into the PCV hose between the PCV valve and the intake manifold and removes aerated oil from the re-circulated air and collects it in a tube that can be drained and recycled. It’s designed to maintain the factory sensor too in the PCV system.

Made in-house from the same material we have used to keep Fox Mustangs from flexing for 25+ years, these Jacking Rails feature CAD-designed, laser cut, high-strength steel brackets and stout 2″ x 1″ steel tubing. Also included are light weight billet aluminum spacers for the rear attachment points. This allows you to maintain the factory rear convertible bracing!

Stangs Storm Sebring International Raceway at the Track Guys Camp Steeda Driving Event

Steeda’s 15th annual Camp Steeda at Sebring International Raceway was a huge success! In collaboration with Track Guys Performance Driving Events, more than 120 participants (new drivers and seasoned drivers alike) ran the full course over the two-day event. Track Guys offers a combination of classroom education and real-world driving instruction. With four groups in total, there is sure to be a driving class suitable for everyone.

Steeda Q-650 at Sebring

We teamed up with Evan Smith from Mustang-360 to drive our stable of Steeda-equipped Mustangs throughout the event. This wouldn’t be the first time Evan got behind the wheel of our supercharged Steeda Q650 S550 – compared to last year’s event, our Q650 was now making more power (right around 700 rwhp) and was fitted with rear coilovers, refined front suspension, Hoosier slicks, big brakes and a few other upgrades. We were also really looking forward to seeing what our full-suspension 400rwhp Steeda EcoBoost S550 could do at the track, and how it stacked up against cars with twice the amount of cylinders.

Steeda Mustangs Take Over Sebring

After a few laps in our Steeda EcoBoost S550, Evan was amazed at how he was passing everyone in sight. While the power wasn’t there to pull anyone down the straights, we could close the gap under braking and we had tremendous momentum in the corners. Planting the tires with late-braking gives you a very high level of grip on initial turn-in, and we found ourselves pushing really hard – the Mustang remained composed and balanced. In just a few laps Evan passed a Corvette, a GT500, and (we believe) two GT350s.

The event had a wide-range of cars in attendance, from race-prepped Fox-body Mustangs to a 1993 SVT Cobra and a handful of Shelby GT350 Mustangs. Of course, there were also GT500s, Bosses, and lots of GTs.

In addition to our full line-up of Steeda IRS, chassis and drivetrain components, we also performed R&D in collaboration with RideTech on their new S550 coilovers.

Driving Impressions of the 640 RWHP S550 Steeda Q650

Evan Smith recently had the opportunity to get some seat time with our Guard Metallic S550 Steeda Q650 pumping out 640 RWHP! First seen at the 2014 SEMA show in Las Vegas, Steeda’s Q650 Ford Mustang had a powerful impact on enthusiasts. The deep metallic paint, aggressive styling, lowered stance and HRE Performance wheels wrapped in Nitto Invo tires got hearts racing. Combined with the Whipple supercharger and Steeda modifications, this high-horsepower 5.0 Mustang had the makings of a street/track superstar.

Recently, Evan got his hands on the Guard Green SEMA Mustang for a day of cruising in south Florida. The weather was perfect and we hit the streets for a little supercharged fun. Like the previous 2015 Steeda Q650 Mustang that he tested at Sebring International Raceway last summer, this model had the full G-Trac suspension and several power upgrades. The suspension included Steeda’s linear Sport Springs, fore and aft anti-roll bars with billet mounts, IRS Bushing Support system, Camber Plates, Adjustable Differential Bushing Inserts, Billet Aluminum Vertical Links, Adjustable Rear Toe Links, IRS Subframe Support Braces, Bumpsteer kit, upgraded Hawk brake pads, and HRE Classic Series 303 20-inch wheels with Nitto Invo tires. The leather interior remained mostly stock, but was enhanced with Steeda new Tri-Ax shifter designed to “eliminate shifter buzz,” as Dario Orlando, President of Steeda Autosports stated.

“The S550 suspension is amazing, but there’s room for improvement,” said Orlando. “Our goal is to develop parts that improve handling, but don’t ruin ride quality. We design and manufacture our own parts, so each Steeda package is tested and ready to perform. We’ll evaluate the parts through a multitude of basic driving tests, then do on-track testing to get the perfect balance. And it all works like a system, so you can add parts as your budget allows, or we can build a complete serialized Steeda vehicle for you. In contrast to the Yellow 2015 screamer, which was boosted by a Vortech, this Guard monster has a Whipple 2.9L Twin-Screw supercharger, finished with a black crinkle finish and sealed air box. Teamed with the Steeda Performance Exhaust System, the combination sounds great and developed amazing power from tip-in-to-redline.

The Steeda Difference: S550 Camber Plates

Our Steeda camber plates (555-8139) have the highest adjustment range on the market. For a 1” lowered car you can adjust your camber from -0.3 degrees to –2.8 degrees. That’s a 2.5 degree adjustment range and higher camber levels are available on cars lowered even further.

Our components are designed from the ground up with function in mind. Our plate thickness is 0.180” and is made of 1008 steel, and is nickel-plated to eliminate the possibility of corrosion.

The design of our camber plates really hit their stride when discussing bearing selection. Our bearings are an extremely high quality ptfe lined (Teflon) bearing. We have a strategic partnership with a US company who provides us with a custom bearing pre-load. This pre-load on the center ball allows us to keep a very low break away torque which minimizes friction in your system. Minimizing friction is important because it affects steering linearity and can also significantly alter the damping of the vehicle. Secondly, this pre-load allows us to make sure there is absolutely no chance of the ball having slop from the manufacturer, or from developing slop over time. This means our camber plates have 100% silent operation, because we hate NVH. We also back that up with a lifetime warranty.

The spherical bearing selected for this unit is rated for over 30,000 lbs statically and over 10,000 lbs dynamically – making it more than capable to handle anything the Mustang, the track or the driver can throw at it. The factory thrust bearing and spring perch are also utilized in our design. Thrust bearings are extremely important for performance applications, yes they are necessary for steering movement in a MacPherson strut but they also reduce spring friction between the spring and the perch when a spring undergoes compression. This is extremely important, spring friction induces secondary undesired spring rates and makes the force which your spring produces unpredictable and inconsistent. Utilizing the factory thrust bearings makes sure we have consistent performance every time. A second benefit of this system is the rubber-coated spring perch from the factory unit – re-using this allows us to keep the spring silent on the perch again for seamless operation. We even go so far as to laser scan the factory units to ensure perfect fitment.

Oh and don’t forget, we rigorously test all of our parts here at Steeda during our product validation phases – between our detailed FEA analysis we have achieved great results. Our Steeda camber plates are rock solid, at forces much larger than the car will ever see the camber plate only deflects 0.002”! Also here are some pictures of us testing the strength of these beautiful TIG welds. With only one weld bead our plates withstood over 40,000 lbs of force!

Steeda’s S550 Mustang Clutch Spring Assist 35 lb/in – Now Available!

Your 2015-2016 Mustang comes with a 185 lb/in clutch assist spring installed from the factory. This high-rate spring is what causes such a vague and disconnected clutch pedal feel (many of you have experienced this). The clutch pedal travels in a circular arc, with the spring assist in the middle of that clutch pedal travel. The middle of that motion compresses the spring initially and then allows it to extend after the first 30 degrees of travel. The combination of a high-rate assist spring and motion of the pedal during engagement causes a non-linear and sometimes confusing pedal feel. Having a non-linear pedal feel makes it hard to modulate the clutch on your Mustang GT, EcoBoost or V6.

Many new Mustang owners have found that taking out the stock OE spring will give you somewhat similar results, but realistically the clutch becomes far too heavy especially if your Mustang is daily driven. Most owners fail to realize the prolonged effects of simply taking out your factory OE spring and not replacing it with another spring. By negating your factory clutch assist spring you will notice chatter/NVH from your clutch pedal. Your clutch pedal will never fully return to stock position without any assist spring, and over time your slave cylinder may begin leaking due to constant pressure on its seals from the clutch pedal not returning to the stock position. Avoid these problems in the future by installing our Steeda S550 Mustang Clutch Assist Spring 35 lb/in into your GT, EcoBoost or V6.

Our 35 lb/in clutch assist spring completely replaces the factory 185 lb/in assist spring. Our engineers have honed in on just the right amount of spring rate to get you the perfect clutch pedal feel you look for in a Mustang. This assist spring is manufactured from piano wire that naturally has high tensile strength and high elastic qualities. Our piano wire spring ensures a consistent spring rate and minimal sag even after repeated use.
